Printmaking Studio for Dar Al-Hekama College
Setting up a printmaking studio was one of the projects I took on at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah Saudi Arabia in my second year (50-06). I have been told that is the first printmaking studio of its kind in academia in the country. From the trouble we had finding supplies, even as simple as printmaking paper, I believe it!

may 06 Madain Saleh
Madain Saleh is in northern Saudi Arabia. The area is embellished with myth and mystery and wild camels. Once part of the spice route in BCE, the area has a rich history including many tombs carved out of the sandstone mountains.
Our guide showed us all the best spots including an Arabian horse ranch where he demonstrated the proper way to ride.

summer travels 2005 Lebanon
This posting is from the summer of 05. Lebanon is an incredible Country. I stayed with my friend Dr. Huda and her family and was treated as one of the family.
Beirut is crowded and busy but quickly opens up to the sea and mountains. The Lebanese people speak Arabic and French and most speak English as well.
Scattered throughout Lebanon are bombed out buildings left over from when war was waged on Lebanese soil over 30 years ago. For all they have been through, the Lebanese people are very passionate and love life and love their Country.
I traveled into the mountains to see a valley full of vineyards at the Syrian border, palaces in the mountains and a castle along the coast of the Mediterranean. Huda drove me all around; we went to a cave, roman bath ruins and many quaint, little towns that grew up around missions. Some of the sites are grottos, like Kahlil Gibran’s birthplace, these are carved into the mountain. St. Anthony’s Monastery is another one shown here.
summer travels 2005 Edinburgh Scotland
The city of Edinburgh in Scotland was old and majestic. I took an intensive digital printmaking workshop in both lithography and screen print. The folks I met there were fantastic artists, teachers and beautiful people. I went alone but had no time to be lonely. My days were filled with working and the evenings were exploring and eating dinner with my new friends from the workshop.
There were festivals and music happening all around the city. It was crowded but everyone was very polite and friendly. I did some touristo shopping to send some “Morrison” and “Graham” coat of arms and tea towels and such back to family and friends.
summer travels 2005 Newcastle UK
Newcastle England's water front was a great place to hang out for a few days. I stayed at a hostel and enjoyed the tall ships that sailed through on the way to Denmark for a race. The ship in the last photo is Russian and hugh. The photo above it is of the moorelands just east of Newcastle on the way to Throssel Hole Abbey.

Dubai 04
I was lucky enough to go to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to renew my visiting visa. I stayed in a 5 star hotel which was right near the waterfront. I found out then that the waterfront was the place to explore in any new place and continued to remember to do this in my future travels. It was the Christmas season in most of the world so the hotel had welcomed decorations.
exhibitions in Jeddah Dec.04 and March 06
Exhibition in Jeddah in December 2004. These types of art exhibitions are very unusual in Jeddah and it was an honor to be part of it (first photo).
I also participated in the SAUDIAAT GROUP MEMBERS AND INVITED FRIENDS exhibition in March of 2006, in which I showed my two Balad Doorway prints.
I still continue to show with the Benchmark Printmakers group as well in the Eugene area and two prints that the Oregon Historical Society has purchased and published.

compound where I live in Jeddah 04-06
The western compound inwhich I lived in Jeddah was well guarded and the villa's were roomy. The cats were mostly wild and plentiful.
One photo is of some of the folks that lived near me on the compound at a Thanksgiving gathering. There were at least 15 different nationalities represented. In the last photo, we are dressed in thobes and ready to break fast during Ramadan (Ifthar).
